5 "Brand Values" of PGEMP Course at SPJIMR

It is known that the "value" of an educational course depends  upon

  1. The quality of the students : How difficult is it to get in the course based on merits ? The more difficult it is to get into the course, the better is the quality of intake of the students in the class. This results into everyone having better colleagues to mix with, informally learn from, and compete against. Many of such good colleagues will go on to occupy positions of high achievement and you will have the advantage of forming friendships with such people on the campus.
  2. The quality of the academics : How good is the academic content, delivery and evaluation in the course? This essentially depends on the quality of the content in the course and the quality of the teachers who deliver. How are the course objectives and learning objectives planned. How they are translated into architecture, pedagogy and curriculum of the program. How is this reflected in the choice of the text books, reading materials, quizzes, guest lectures, examinations, debates and events. How is the process of updating learning objectives in line with the changing needs of the external world. Relative emphasis on conceptual learning, action learning and application oriented learning.
  3. The quality of the institution :  How good are the people, processes and the pedagogy ? This essentially depends on the quality of planning, the professors, the processes and the culture of the institute. In good institutes the strategic learning objectives are well defined and periodically updated, course outlines are prepared, professors and other academic staff is both qualified and experienced, right ways of imparting teaching are used, focus is on classroom learning and also beyond-classroom learning, evaluations are properly done, continuous feedback and improvements are ingrained in the culture and attention is paid to various stakeholders' satisfaction.
  4. The "passport for a good career" : what happens to you after you pass out.
  5. Is it "recognized" by those who matter

We are happy to share with you where we areon these 5 issues
What benefits you will get by attending the PGEMP program
  1. You will learn along with high caliber, high potential colleagues
  2. You will not only learn in the class but also on your job
  3. You will attend a top ranking Institute with high quality professors
  4. You will give a boost to your career by readying yourself for the next orbit
  5. You will attend a course that is globally recognized
Let us now address each one of these ...

You will learn along with high caliber, high potential colleagues

Studies show that a lot of the learning comes not only from the professors but from the colleagues and the quality of the discussions they create in the class. So, what kind of colleagues can you expect to have? You can expect more than 75% of the class to come from the executives of our "Partner Companies" (click here to know the names). They are large and professionally managed companies and have well established recruitment, induction and performance practices and processes. Most of our participants are first selected by their companies internally -based on their performance - and then we too subject them to our own admission process consisting of 4 tests - IQ, EQ, GD and PI. This double selection process is key to the high quality of our participants. People cannot just walk into our course because they can afford to pay. Some of these colleagues, who are currently in their 30s, will become VPs, COOs and CEOs in their 40s and you can look forward to having a great network.

You will not only learn in the class but also on the job

Unlike other courses, the focus of our course is not only on the classroom. In fact we attach only 50% importance to examinations which are essentially based on learning from texts and professors. In our case the remaining 50% importance is given to the application of theory to the actual job situation of the participant. We call this contextual customization. There are over 100 application assignments that a participant is expected to do apart from a major capstone project. In our course it is necessary for each participant to have an in-company mentor who guides and also assesses the application proficiency of his mentee. We believe that we train our students not only in "knowing" but also in "doing" and "being". This makes our students more ready to move up. Our aim is to prepare future general managers.

You will attend a top ranking Institute with high quality professors

Several "league tables" are published these days. Most rank us being among "Top 10" in India and among "Top 25 in Asia". Some of the best companies of India come regularly to our campus for recruitment. Our Dean Dr M L Shrikant is from Harvard and is responsible for setting up academic processes which stand us in good stead. Most of our professors who teach in our executive education center not only have a good academic background but also work experience at senior levels in the industry. Many of them regularly attend trainings and conferences abroad and do research to stay current. many also teach abroad.

You will give a boost to your career and be ready for the next orbit

Most of our partner companies place a high value on their executives attending our  program. That is why they carefully select high caliber and high potential candidates who have completed at least 5 years in the industry to enroll into our program. Naturally such candidates receive favorable career paths after they pass out. Most of our pass-outs experience promotions during the course or soon after their passing out. We have had over 35 batches of 50 each till now.

You will attend a course that is globally recognized

Our course has been audited by AMBA of London (www.mbaworld.com) and recognized by them. AMBA has audited over a 120 programs in over 60 countries of the world. Our program has been recognized as being "equivalent to an MBA" and we are only one of two such executive management programs from India to receive this global accreditation.
